Crypto payments offer privacy, no chargebacks, and no bank involvement. At OzPeps, we accept Bitcoin (BTC), Litecoin (LTC), and Monero (XMR), all processed through our self-hosted payment system. This guide covers how to get set up from scratch, whichever option suits you best.
Why Pay with Crypto?
Option 1: Exodus Wallet (Easiest: Recommended for Beginners)
Exodus is an all-in-one wallet app available on iOS, Android, and desktop. It has a built-in exchange and lets you buy crypto directly using AUD through integrated providers, no separate exchange account needed.
Steps
- Download Exodus from exodus.io (iOS / Android / Desktop)
- Create your wallet, write down your 12-word recovery phrase and store it somewhere safe offline. This is the only way to recover your funds if you lose access to your device.
- Inside the app, tap Buy and select your crypto (BTC or LTC)
- Choose a provider, Ramp, Banxa, and MoonPay are all available within Exodus
- Complete ID verification with the provider (photo ID, usually takes a few minutes)
- Purchase your crypto, it arrives in your Exodus wallet within minutes
- At checkout on OzPeps, select your currency, copy the payment address, and send from Exodus
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Everything in one app | Built-in providers include a small premium (typically 1–3%) |
| Works on mobile, buy and pay in minutes | ID verification still required through the provider |
| Beginner-friendly interface | Not ideal for large or frequent purchases where fees add up |
Best for: First-time buyers or anyone wanting the fastest possible setup.
Option 2: Crypto Exchange + Exodus Wallet (Best Value)
Using a dedicated Australian exchange like CoinSpot or Swyftx gives you the best AUD-to-crypto rates. You then transfer your crypto into Exodus before making a payment. This extra step is important, you should never send directly from an exchange to a merchant. Exchanges can delay or flag outgoing transactions, and if anything goes wrong with the payment you have very little recourse.
Steps
- Create an account on CoinSpot (coinspot.com.au) or Swyftx (swyftx.com)
- Complete ID verification, Australian exchanges are AUSTRAC-regulated, so this is mandatory (driver's licence or passport, usually 10–30 minutes)
- Deposit AUD via bank transfer or PayID
- Buy your preferred crypto (BTC or LTC)
- Set up Exodus wallet if you haven't already (see Option 1 steps 1–2)
- Withdraw from the exchange to your Exodus wallet address
- Once it arrives in Exodus, send from Exodus to OzPeps at checkout
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Best rates, lower fees than built-in wallet providers | More steps to set up initially |
| Good for repeat purchases | Account verification can take 10–30 minutes |
| Better liquidity for larger amounts | Requires managing two apps (exchange + Exodus) |
Best for: Repeat customers or anyone comfortable with a few extra steps who wants the best long-term value.
Which Should You Choose?
| Exodus Only | Exchange + Exodus | |
|---|---|---|
| Setup time | ~10 minutes | 30–60 minutes |
| Fees | Slightly higher | Lower |
| Steps | Fewer | More |
| Best for | First purchase | Regular use |
Want to Pay with Monero (XMR)?
Monero offers the strongest on-chain privacy of any cryptocurrency, which is why we accept it at OzPeps. Due to its privacy features, most Australian exchanges have delisted XMR, acquiring it typically requires swapping from another coin using a non-custodial exchange service.
If you're already familiar with this process, you'll know what to do. If not, we recommend sticking with BTC or LTC, both are straightforward to buy on any major Australian exchange.
